Since moving from Sliema to St. Julian's, my onvol sonic connection was ok. Streaming media - ususally - without interruptions and an enjoyable gaming experience. About a week ago, some work was carried out in my area and the connection was down for half a day. I wish they would at least send out e-mails to their clients informing about maintenance or post the info on their web site - but hey, I don't have a business connection, so I can't really complain about that. But ever since then, the connection has gone really bad - no more enjoying my favourite radio stations, no more enjoying FPS or poker. I've lost some money playing poker due to the connection just stalling and my hands being folded without me being able to do anything. My speedtests to dslreports have gone down from 800 kbit to 200 kbit. (Although 800kbit for a 5mbit connection sounds bad, the general and combined speed was good) Needless to say, my e-mail to onvol support has gone unanswered. Perhaps it's time to take a closer look at the go packages. Peace, MJ --- check out LAF's art and MJ's music and photos at: http://www.alexts.net/mousejunkie/ |

Looks like onvol is not the culprit, which is why I am posting this. Something is very strange. I bypassed my WiFi router and plugged directly into the cable modem. dslreports speed test up to 2.7mbit/s. Perhaps after the work was done, more people have connected to onvol and are using wireless routers which are interfering with mine. I used NetStumbler to see what other routers could be interfering and found that they are all on channel 6, so I switched mine to 4. But this has not helped. When I've found a solution, I'll post it here. I'm using an MSI RG60SE router with WEP-PSK, AES by the way. IT does not broadcast the SSID and I have also enabled the router's firewall and set it to allow only the MAC-Address of my laptop (It really was ok before the work on was done) - any tips welcome. |

looks like my "good" connection was just a temporary thing. the connection has become really bad again. - no difference with or without WiFi router. Over the last few days, I can't even listen to a 64k radio stream without it stopping at least twice in one song. Even my colleagues who use onvol say it's been really bad. The ones laughing are those on go adsl "I told you so..." Guess that my very first impression of onvol was correct: onvol=CONvol When the service was ok, I was considering one of their tv packages... but it looks like it'll be go adsl and a satellite dish for me after all |
